1 Al-Quds Open University , Palestine. Department: Open and Distance Learning Center (ODLC)
Profile:

Since the establishment of the university, the academic staff alongside with the administrative and technical staffs dedicated themselves to build a model academic institution which is able to contribute effectively in human development. Some of QOU achievements are:

1- QOU was admitted as a partner university in Erasmus Mundus for Academic Development sponsored by the EU: The Vrije Universiteit Brussel took the lead to set up a consortium of 20 universities, 10 from Europe and 10 from the countries in the Middle East. The project aims to support higher education institutions in Europe and the Arab World through granting scholarships in a variety of specializations in addition to professors' academic visits. It brings together students and staff from universities in different participating countries.

2- QOU has become an accredited training and testing center for several international academies and centers: The university was accredited to be training and testing center by: Oracle IT Academy, Microsoft IT Academy, Sun Academic Initiative, Exclusive Certiport Training and Testing Center, Authorized Prometric Testing Center, Authorized ETS TOEFL testing center.

3- Strategic plan for the period 2007-2011 One of the most important university accomplishments was finalizing 2007-2011 strategic plan. It is a step towards modernity and excellence through the application of quality criteria in all academic and administrative aspects. The strategic plan is based on developing QOU's vision and mission, analyzing and assessing the needs, goals and future work strategies. It took into consideration the recommendations of the external evaluation report. Besides, the university presidency established a strategic following up committee, to insure serious commitment to the strategic plan and good performance, in addition to offering technical support to university departments and centers in order to assist in implementing and following up their annual plans to guarantee consistency with the goals, the mission and the vision of the university.

4- QOU Campus Projects: In accordance with QOU strategic plan and the recommendations of the external evaluation report, QOU accomplished significant achievements in the course of implementing its strategy to shift off the rented premises to its owned ones. This strategy includes long term goals to enhance the performance, role and position of QOU in the Palestinian economy and community as a whole, which is reflected by the rapid and huge increase in the numbers of its learners. The above mentioned facts will offer the university the elasticity and the capabilities to extend horizontally and vertically, based on principles that take into consideration technical and academic quality aspects. Since these trends are a continuation of the university efforts, they aim to boost the open educational process in accordance with the quality management standards, and to meet the requirements and challenges of human resources development in Palestine. QOU accomplished important stages in university campus projects, such as: Bethlehem Educational Region campus project; the first stage of North Gaza (Beit Lahia) Educational Region campus and the Gaza Strip administrative building; the first stage of Hebron Educational Region campus project, it is anticipated to receive the second stage in the near future. Finally, The efforts are still ongoing in that respect; many lands are allocated in different districts and continuing fundraising efforts for constructing projects, especially for: Ramallah and Al-Bireh Educational Region campus; Qalqulia Educational Region campus and Jenin Educational Region campus.
